The Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation into the “suspicious” disappearance of Oakley Carlson in Oakville earlier this week. The authorities said they were asked to check on the welfare of the child by a concerned citizen. When officers arrived at the home of Jordan Bowers and Andrew Carlson, the pair couldn’t explain where their daughter was, KOMO reported. Bowers and Carlson were initially considered persons of interest by deputies, and they have since been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter....

The “unique” piece of rock art was found in the Markazi Province during a survey of petroglyphs in the area over 2017 and 2018. After researchers noticed the unusual carving, they enlisted the help of an archaeologist to describe it. Findings are published in the Journal of Orthoptera Research. While petroglyphs often depict larger animals, those representing a six-legged creature that appeared to be an invertebrate are not. The carving appears to have a triangular head, large eyes and the arms of a preying mantis....

Sperm whales have large, fatty nasal organs, which they use to produce sounds like calls and sonar signals for echolocation. The authors of this paper report that they have analyzed the bite marks on several fossilized sperm whale skulls from the Miocene era, aged between 6 and 6 million years old, from the Pisco formation in Peru. Bite marks consistent with the jaws of ancient shark species were found on the regions of the sperm whale skulls adjacent to these fatty nasal organs, mostly on the upper jaw bones, and the region around the eye....
