Roberson first played in on the joke on social media, and continued on Saturday, as he hugged media members and then addressed the confusion of it all on Friday.

“[The hug ordeal] was actually pretty funny,” said Roberson. “I went back to the locker room and checked my phone and my agent called me. I was getting all these tweets and my phone was blowing up.”

So what was the hugging all about?

“We had a nice little meeting with our coaches and we just hugged it out.”

The trade deadline is a way-too-serious time in the NBA, where media and fans are overly sensitive to just about anything out of the ordinary that a player may do. It’s a time where people keep track of what tweets a player likes, if he changes his Twitter bio and read way too into emojis.

“Now I know,” said Roberson. “I didn’t know people would be recording me after my film session. Now I’m aware of it and I’ll grow as a player and a person.”
